Ready to turn your passion for drones into a certified career? To operate drones legally and professionally in India, you must obtain a Remote Pilot License (RPL). Here's everything you need to know to start your journey!
What is a Remote Pilot License?
The Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) is a mandatory certification issued through the Digital Sky Platform by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.
Without an RPL, no individual can operate an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) for commercial purposes.
An RPL will specifically mention:
Category (eg. aeroplane, rotorcraft)
Sub-category (eg. fixed-wing, multirotor)
Classification (eg. small, medium drones)
or a combination of these that you are authorized to fly.

Eligibility for Remote Pilot License
License Validity & Renewal
With DGCA certified Pilot Course
Your RPL is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
You must ensure it is listed on the Digital Sky platform at all times.
Before expiration, renew your licence for another 10 years after completing a mandatory refresher course.
Who Doesn't Need an RPL?
Good news for hobbyists and beginners!
You do not need a Remote Pilot Licence if you are:
Operating a Nano drone (weight less than or equal to 250 grams).
Operating a Micro drone (weight 250 grams to 2 kg) for non-commercial purposes.
If you plan to fly commercially, you must be certified — no matter the size!
